He has served as Editor and Chief Writer of Airport Investor Monthly, a subscription report, overseeing the production of 100 editions. More recently he has managed the creation of cutting edge online databases concerning global airport investors and airport construction/capital expenditure.
Since 1999, 16 management reports on airport investment, low cost airports, airport security, airline financing and related subjects have been researched and written by the expert and purchased in over 100 countries worldwide, by financial sector clients including Goldman Sachs, the International Finance Corporation, UBS and Nomura, operators such as Fraport and AENA, as well as airlines, governments, lawyers, architects and supply chain operators.
Expert writes the country review pages for a number of prestigious annual reviews. In addition he has worked on many individual research projects for clients as diverse as Ryanair, ICAO, IATA, Avinor (Norway), Birmingham Airport and the Indian Parliament. He is a frequent media commentator, having worked with the BBC, CNN, New York Times/International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal and Reuters amongst others.
Prior to becoming a researcher and analyst he worked at the ‘coal face’ of the airline industry, in marketing and business development for airlines such as Austrian Airlines and Icelandair, also as a partner in a travel agency business, and as Travel Administration Manager for a multinational company. Before entering the air transport sector he was a Private Secretary to a Government Minister in the British Civil Service.
He produced a document (2013) on the evolution of global and regional alliances and how they influence the case for expansion of a mid-sized British airport beyond its current status into a national gateway/hub airport.He revised and rewrote the Air Traffic Forecasting Manual for The International Civil Aviation Organisation (2011/12).He undertook an opportunity analysis in the Russian market for a major northern European airport operator (2011) and for the same company he researched and wrote a defence document against Low Cost Airline (LCC) incursion at neighbouring airports and a subsequent report on the benefits/disadvantages of attracting that LCC (2008/9)He undertook business, regulatory and route development research for a start-up transcontinental airline.He made a major contribution to traffic and business forecasts and a cost benefit analysis in respect of proposed runway, terminal and other infrastructure developments at airports in the Cape Verde islands, West Africa (2002).
