Expert has extensive expertise in the areas of multivariate discriminant and cluster analysis. He was employed for a number of years at NASA/JSC, where he utilized discriminant and cluster analysis techniques to group differing vegetation types on the earth's surface and classify unknown elemental vegetative entities reliably and accurately into correct classes. This was done in order to estimate the aerial extent of differing vegetative canopies (with initial emphasis on wheat, the major food crop throughout the world) utilizing remotely-sensed satellite-based data. His Master's thesis was concerned with pattern recognition and required an in-depth knowledge of discriminant and cluster analysis. These techniques are applicable to many other disciplines that are multivariate in structure.

Expert has consulted with numerous firms over the past 35 years. Many of these were petrochemical, petroleum and aerospace-based firms (with the latter involving monitoring of the physiology of the astronauts prior to, during, and after flights in zero gravity). Their problems required the extensive use of curve fitting but also testing changes across time. Expert's expertise in these areas include determining the optimal functional fit in conjunction with selecting the optimal predictor or influential variables, and assessing the model's goodness-of-fit (or lack-of-fit) with follow up model diagnostics. Again these techniques are applicable to many differing disciplines and situations. Expert has consulted extensively over the past 35 years in the area of preventive statistical process and quality control. He has assisted putting techniques in place, along with accompanying statistics packages, to permit companies to do preventive control in-house along with determining sources and magnitudes of variations to directly improve manufacturing and related processes. He has also lectured numerous times at learned society meetings on these topics and taught refresher courses for one to three days for companies that use such techniques on a regular basis in and around the Houston area.

The area of multiple regression analysis is a particular specialty area of Expert's and one that is highly applicable in numerous disciplines. He has consulted extensively on this topic. He has published numerous papers on multiple regression analysis and wrote a Ph.D. dissertation in the more all-inclusive area referred to as general linear statistical modeling and analysis. He has also taught numerous courses at the graduate level with emphasis in this area and directed many theses and practicums on these topics. Expert has conducted statistical analyses on data from a wide range of disciplines. This extensive experience comes as a result of consulting, teaching statistics to many differing disciplines, and providing statistical consultation to faculty and their graduate students (from all disciplines) at the universities where he has been employed. He has numerous consulting experiences that required extensive expertise in the areas of multivariate analysis, linear algebraic aspects of statistical modeling, Monte Carlo techniques, and statistical computing requirements. Experimental design is a particular specialty area of Expert's. Not only has he consulted extensively in the area, but many of his publications are in the area as well. He has assisted in numerous experimental designs in industry. Least squares methods is a strong area f. Not only has he consulted extensively on this topic, but his Ph.D. dissertation emphasized this area. He has numerous publications on this topic, and he has lectured at learned society meeting on least squares. His expertise on least squares and weighted least squares is extensive in both theoretical and applied aspects of the subject. These techniques are also widely applicable to many disciplines. Expert has in-depth knowledge of not only linear but also non-linear multiple regression modeling and analysis. This has resulted from the frequent occurrence of this area in problems on which he has consulted. His expertise has also been reinforced with his numerous lectures on this topic. He has taught 1 to 3-day short course on advanced statistics topics numerous times to petrochemical and aerospace firms.
