Request Expert

Expert has been involved in the automotive electronics business since 1963. He is experienced in applying electrical and electronics to the vehicle, including body, chassis, and power train systems. He is currently assisting clients with understanding how and when new electrical and electronics technology will supplement, enable, or displace current electromechanical, electric, or pure mechanical systems in the vehicle. A case in point is the current rapid development of battery chemistry that will initially displace some IC engines. The current development of pure electric and hybrid electric vehicles will enable the new battery technology as a power source for future vehicles. This is indicative of the application of automotive electrical and electronics science to the vehicle, sometimes known as holistic thinking or systems engineering.

He is currently providing expert witness information on electrical and electronics systems, and airbag and crash sensor technology.

Expert is well connected in the automotive industry, both at the OEM level as well as at the first tier supplier level. He has conducted numerous technology direction assignments on such subjects as automotive display systems, electrically powered braking systems, electronic transmission controls, electronically controlled power steering systems, crash sensors, occupant sensors for air bags, vehicle anti-theft systems, computational fluid dynamics applications for new software developers, composites for vehicles, technology assessments for new applications, systems engineering applications, as well as attending the Tokyo motor show and producing a video summarizing the important technological trends as seen at the show.

He recently completed a trip to Europe where he visited three OEMs and seven major suppliers with a new technology-based supplier to introduce him to the European automotive community. As Vice President Automotive for the (Undisclosed) Technology Society he is showcasing new electrical and electronic technologies for the modern passenger car, light truck and heavy duty truck as these vehicles move toward electric propulsion both hybrid and plug in products. He is a Fellow membership grade member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

While with Ford Advanced Vehicle Engineering, Expert was responsible for the complete instrument panel, including cluster, entertainment systems, climate control systems, driver controls, lighting, and safety systems. He was responsible for airbag safety systems, including air bag doors, packaging, sensors, air bag materials, inflation systems, and testing for verification of performance. He recently completed a study on flat panel reconfigurable displays for future vehicles. Voice operated controls are part of this technology for advanced vehicles.

Expert has been involved in automotive research and development his entire career. His experience includes entertainment systems, climate control systems, inflatable restraint systems, display systems, loudspeakers, antennas, starting and charging systems, intelligent cruise control systems (radar- and lidar-based), braking systems, electronic throttle control systems, vehicular systems engineering, competitive analysis, reliability management, alternative propulsion systems, structural composite applications, and active stability control systems. He is well versed in the present and future strategic and technology directions for the automotive business.

Expert is currently providing consulting services to a variety of first and second tier suppliers on emerging technologies and how and when that technology would cause a paradigm shift in the customers' product lines. His assignments have included studies of braking, transmission, electronic throttle control, displays, natural gas powered stationary engine control, inflatable restraint, and electric vehicle propulsion. He conducts patent and literature searches based on competitors' actions. He also searches synergistic industries and conducts phone interviews with leading automotive and academic experts to determine the origins of dislocations in a client's business. Based on this data, Expert creates a timeline illustrating potential threats to a client.

From 1977 to 1979, Expert managed the design build and test of an all Graphite Fiber Reinforced (GrFRP) 1979 vehicle that saved 1200#'s and gained 6 MPG over the production 1979 vehicle. This all GrFRP vehicle met all current, at that time, Safety, Damageability, Emissions and Noise (SDEN) requirements.

This vehicle became the yardstick to measure weight reduction programs as to their weight savings merit.

Heavy Duty Truck Engine Controls Safety Systems tampering, Heated Seat Malfunction resulting in Burns to the Paraplegic Diver Malfunctioning Seat Sensor Switch/Connector resulting in no air bag deployment Malfunctioning Starter Relay resulting in paraplegic level injury to automotive technician Product technology evaluation as installed in a production vehicle, fit for use under all conditions.
