Expert has spent many years designing and building bar code equipment and consulting on bar code technology. He has consulted on retail, shipping, medical, manufacturing, electronics, and other industrial and commercial bar coding applications.
Over the last 15 years, Expert has built laser, LED array, thermal transfer, and thermal printers. He has studied and evaluated ink jet, electro-static, dielectric, electrographic, magneto graphic, and label printers. He designed label stock, adhesives, labeling systems, thermal transfer, and thermal media. He designed thermal and LED array printer heads including thick and thin films. He also designed electronic drivers, software and print algorithms including data compression.
Expert has extensive experience designing and developing pulsed infrared sources using thick film elements. He designed power drivers to increase source life and optics to maximize power output. He ruggedized these sources to make them almost unbreakable and adapted them to many applications such as gas analysis, active infrared motion detection, and many others. This work included studies of high-speed temperature measurement and micro-miniature temperature measurement and generation. He has patents in this area.
Over the past five years, Expert designed and developed gas analyzers to monitor pollution, auto gas emissions, blood gas, and respiratory gases including CO2. His activity generated several patents on CO2 sensors including infrared source and detection techniques. This work has evolved into flow sensing, oxygen sensing, and metabolic and cardiac output monitoring. He also worked on pulse oximetry.
Expert spent the last 20 years designing, building, and consulting on electro-optics. He built one of the first single-mode diode laser systems. He designed laser cooling systems, drive electronics, optics and mechanical monitoring. He designed imaging systems, hybrid photo detectors, laser scanners, digital image processing, infrared detectors, gas lasers, and YAG lasers. Recently, Expert worked for two years on the development of an electric toothbrush and related oral hygiene devices.
Expert is currently working in the area of remote sensing for applications such as satellite imaging, unmanned airborne vehicles (UAVs), and aerial photography. He has access to 20 years of expertise in these areas. Specific applications include environmental monitoring and conservation, land use, forest management, violation monitoring (illegal tree cutting, etc), pollution monitoring, energy conservation, agriculture (crop inventory assessment, precision farming, and yield predictions), mapping, communication equipment siting, civil engineering (construction, planning and damage monitoring), transportation, real estate visualization, weather forecasting, urban planning, tourism, and health monitoring. He is particularly focusing on integration of geographic information systems (GIS) with remote data, including georeferencing and orthorectification. The satellite data comes from visible and infrared band images, from multi-spectral, and soon hyperspectral satellites. Data is also available from SAR (synthetic aperture radar). Expert can also be of help on data analysis and image processing of the satellite data.
