Biophysics, Fragment Screening, Model Membranes, and Scientific Communication

ID: 733869 United Kingdom

Request Expert

Expert is currently using biophysical methods like surface plasmon resonance (SPR), nuclear magnetics resonance (NMR) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) to characterise protein-small molecule interactions. Her work helps to find new drug opportunities against cancer-related targets. She also organises and performs collaborative fragment screens.

Throughout her scientific education, Expert has had the opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of methods in
biology, physics and chemistry to characterize protein-ligand interactions. She applied and maintained
various biophysical methods like SPR but also methods like NMR, ITC, infrared reflection absorption
spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), and fluorescence microscopy techniques such as confocal microscopy, total internal refelection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy and two-photon microscopy.

Expert is routinely consulting collaborators regarding their biophysical appications, fragment screening and model membrane systems.

In addition, she has a strong background concerning the establishment of new biophysical assays.

Expert is currently using SPR, ITC and NMR assays to study protein-small molecule interactions in
addition to conducting fragment screens working with cancer related targets including small GTPases.
During her postdoctoral studies, she was working on the development of a new SNARE-mediated fusion assay
measuring synaptic vesicle fusion to a freestanding membrane in vitro on a single vesicle level. Before
this time, she focused on the setup of new biophysical assays especially using SPR, but also other above
mentioned techniques for the analysis of kinetics and conformational dynamics of protein-membrane
and protein-protein and drug interactions in the field of Ras GTPases and amyloids.

Expert's working attitude comprises high commitment, consistency and a strong identification with her
projects. She has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship of the German Research Foundation, as well as several poster prizes at international conferences. She is able to produce commendable results working individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team, as depicted in her publication record.

Expert has the ability to organise and take on leadership roles -- as, for example, she is currently organizing and consulting collaborative fragment screens. She has organized a scientific symposium and led on a project for the independent establishment of a cell laboratory during her dissertation.

Expert is routinely consulting her collaborators concerning the following topics:
Preparation and execution of fragment-based screening.
Biophysical methods
Making and presenting of scientific posters and talks, writing of scientific proposals
Model membranes
