Bone Biology, Advanced Microscopy, 3D Imaging Analysis

ID: 728760 United Kingdom

Request Expert

Expert has developed expertise in bone biology including effects of growth factors, growth factor receptor signalling and expression, endocrinology (TSH, T3 and thyrostimulin) and orthopaedics.

Expert recently developed novel advanced 3D microscopy protocols to acquire images of large volumes of tissue (tiledZ stacks) which may be applied to any bone cancer preclinical model with fluorescent tags (for example myeloma, breast and prostate cancers). This permits quantitative analysis of cubic millimeters of tissue whilst maintaining single cell sensitivity. Expert is applying this method to locate early colonising cancer cells in the bone microenvironment and characterise the pre-metastatic and post-metastatic niche. To complement this Expert also developed a very high resolution microCT protocol to enable previously unknown tiny skeletal structures in murine skulls to be analysed. This has been successfully applied to assess the effects of bisphosphonates and other bone modulating therapeutics in a preclinical model and represent a putative pre-metastatic niche.
