Request Expert

Expert is highly regarded for his knowledge of carbon composites and high performance organic fibers including carbon and graphite fibers. He is very knowledgeable of the development and consequences of structure on the performance of carbon fibers and has written on shape instabilities in composites.

Expert's research also includes formation of carbon and ceramic matrix composites for high temperature application by precursor pyrolysis and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). He has used liquid crystalline thermoplastic polymers for composite matrices. He developed pyrolytic graphite as reentry and rocket nozzle material and has used silicon carbide to produce optical quality, non-stick molds for glass lenses. He discovered shape stable unsymmetric composites and has studied hygrothermally shape stable composites and filament winding of complex geometry shapes. He is very familiar with the properties and applications of mesophase pitch. He presented a paper on the use of expert systems for manufacturing composite materials.
