Expert received his MD from Washington University School of Medicine in 1977. He completed his resident training in pediatric in 1979 and neurology in 1980 at two different teaching hospitals in Missouri. He also completed additional fellowship training in child neurology and pediatric epilepsy in 1991. In 2003, he also completed a pediatric epilepsy preceptorship at Bowman Gray University in North Carolina.

He is board certified in pediatrics, psychiatry and neurology with a subspecialty in child neurology, clinical neurophysiology, psychiatry and neurology with a subspecialty in clinical neurophysiology and neuro-developmental disabilities.

Expert, has over 30 years of experience in the field of Neurology and Pediatrics. He can provide neurological consultation and managment for developmental and acquired disorders of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerve and muscle. His professional career is focused specifically on seizures, epilepsy, headaches, movement disorders, developmental disorders, and the effects of cancer on the nervous system.

Expert is involved in various national advisory committees on neuroscience, pediatric oncology, neurophysiology, electroencephalographic, neurofibromatosis, brain tumor, and epilepsy. He is involved in protocol analysis and assessment of pediatric oncology clinical research regarding chemotherapy, radiation, radiotherapy and diagnosis.

He is knowledgable in the most current research update in pediatric neurology and has experience evaluating and treating perinatal care. His experiences also include conducting educational programs regarding pediatric particularly the management and diagnosis of children with chronic headaches. He also provides oncology services particularly regarding pediatric brain tumors and seizures.

His research interest and past publications has been on specific topics such as neonatal neurology, brain injury, periventricular intraventricular hemorrhage, central nervous system infections, brainstem astrocytomas, migraine variants and mimics, clinical neurophysiology of infancy, childhood and adolescence, manifestations of metabolic, toxic, and degenerative diseases, infectious diseases, brainstem glioma, brainstem auditory evoked responses, audiometry and ototoxicity in children receiving cisplatin, nitrazepam, treatment of high risk medulloblastoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumors with pre-irradiation cisplatin and etoposide, cisplatin and etoposide (VP-16) for recurrent brain tumors in childhood, effects of treatment sequence on ototoxicity due to cisplatin and radiation in pediatric brain tumor patients, patterns of dissemination and recurrence in childhood ependymoma and hyperfractionated irradiation for childhood ependymoma.
