He completed his resident training in pediatric in 1979 and neurology in 1980 at two different teaching hospitals in Missouri. He also completed additional fellowship training in child neurology and pediatric epilepsy in 1991. In 2003, he also completed a pediatric epilepsy preceptorship at Bowman Gray University in North Carolina.
