Expert teaches a course on the theoretical and practical aspects of alternating current transformers. This course is a must for utility and industrial electrical engineers, who have the responsibility of keeping their electrical system on-line. A transformer is a very complex and valuable device with many mechanical and chemical processes taking place all the time. His course combines theoretical and practical aspects of transformer design, operation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting. It gives the participant the information necessary in helping him prevent premature failure and costly unplanned outages. The participant will learn the oil and electrical test requirements and how to interpret the test data as well as setting up a proper preventative maintenance program.

With the ever-increasing need to dispatch electric energy to growing loads, existing distribution systems grow and expand. As well, new networks are constructed in the new developing residential, industrial and agricultural areas. Thus, large investments are spent to construct a distribution system, such that in typical power systems, 40% of the investments are spent in the distribution system which is double the investment in the transmission system (20%) and as much as the investment in the generation plants (40%). In addition, the consumers are now progressively interested in power quality and an uninterrupted supply, i.e. a reliable distribution system is required. Therefore, system engineers in the Power Utilities progressively give every care to the distribution system operation, testing and protection. Expert has over 30 years of experience with distribution systems.

Generation power plants are the principle elements in defining networks voltages and frequencies, which are reflected into loads performances and efficiencies. Controlling the generation power plants output voltages and frequencies guarantee stable and reliable system operation. Both corrective and preventive control techniques are to be used in power plants, which are generating hundreds or thousands of megawatts allover the hour. Expert has years of experience with power plants.

Expert’s research interests include power system stability, facts, power system planning and operation, modeling, control, electromechanical energy conversion, sub-synchronous resonance, application of artificial intelligence to power system planning and operations, reactive power control, optimization planning and operation for power system, application of genetic algorithm to power system, diagnostics, state estimation, analysis of ground systems, cathodic protection, petri-net, energy efficiency, demand management and conservation, and supply power quality on power systems.

There is considerable interest among people who operate and maintain electrical power systems in a wide range of topics relating to equipment maintenance and testing. This is because condition and reliability are directly related to maintenance and testing. To obtain maximum life from electrical equipment, maintain its reliability, and minimize repair cost, it is necessary to serve and test it periodically to predict condition. Proper installation and preventive maintenance of substation will assure continued electrical power supply. It is very important to the consumers especially, for industrial sector where the loss of electrical power supply is costly. Expert can help prevent outages through testing and maintenance techniques.

Expert teaches a course on electrical power systems. The course commences by reviewing current practice to establish a sound understanding of the underlying principles of power system operation & control. Next are considered the developments that are taking place as a result of cross border interconnection policies, emissions control (kogoto) and numerous advances in technological innovation. The manner in which the “new technologies” are implemented are related to geographical location, sites in power demand, government strategy and the technical motivation for change. Not all power systems will advance at the same rate but all will take advantage of the benefits of technology to a greater or lesser extent. The course aims to make candidates aware of improvements in operational control that technological advance makes possible and to consider implementation for their system whether it be a large utility or an industrial islanded system.

Expert is a Senior Power Engineer with creativity, integrity and strong visionary leadership qualities including: ability to train, lead and motivate; a leader with excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities; national, international and corporate workplace experience; Liaison with professionals, academic and government institutions; ability to identify, conceptualize, plan and monitor major projects; project management and budget administration of large projects; significant research and technical publications in internationally referred journals and conferences; ability to work effectively as a member of cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary organizations; ability to operate with confidence and authority at a senior level with well developed communication skills both personally and in writing.
