Expert is a generalist systems engineer in electro-optical systems. He has over 20 years of experience with all aspects of optical detection and illumination systems. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics, he began his post-Ph.D. career with a post-doctoral position in astronomical spectrometers for large telescopes. He then moved into aerospace and has worked on various terrestrial and space-based optical systems. He has three patents and three patents pending.

Some of the projects he has worked on are imaging spectrometers (or hyperspectral imagers), remote sensing systems, infrared Earth-observing satellites and Earth and space-based concentrated solar power. His expertise is end-to-end, system-level understanding of complex systems, as well as unusual non-imaging systems.
