Expert (pronounced road-re-an) has designed analog circuits that measure current or voltage signals from temperature, pressure, flow, and conductivity transducers. He has designed isolated, 4-20 mA current loop transmitters. The analog circuits provide inputs to or outputs from microprocessor-based controllers.

Expert has written assembly language programs for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microprocessors. His primary experience is with the Motorola family of microprocessors that includes the 68HC05, 68HC11, 68HC16, 68000, and 68HC300 family of parts. He has experience with derivatives of the Intel family of microprocessors, Intel 8051, including the Zilog Z-80 and NEC V-25 parts. The programs Expert has written are for real-time control of a machine or a process.

Expert has developed cooling tower and boiler controllers that automatically dispense chemicals based on time-of-day, water flow, or measured conductivity algorithms. These controllers include self-test, self-calibration, and error-reporting capabilities. The controllers interface to a computer via optically isolated digital outputs, 4-20 mA current loops, or serial communications protocols.

Expert has developed MS-DOS based computer systems to record real-time data from temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, and animal activity transducers. The data recorded by these systems were used to develop the control algorithms for microprocessor-based products and to verify the operation of these products.

Expert has developed electronic circuits to measure the conductivity of fresh water, pure water, and ion-exchange resin. These microprocessor-based circuits measure conductivity from 0.1 micro-Siemens to 10,000 micro-Siemens. A recent project included the design, development, and testing of a conductivity cell.

Expert has designed microprocessor-based products for use in industrial, agricultural, commercial, and consumer markets. Several of these products are battery powered while others are powered from a conventional AC line. The animal activity monitor Expert designed and patented operates for two years from one AA size lithium battery. Expert has extensive experience designing microprocessor hardware and software for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microprocessors.

The scope of Expert's involvement in the design of electronic products includes the design and construction of engineering models (prototypes) and pre-production units. Expert tests these units for compliance with appropriate standards and customer requirements. He has evaluated prototypes as well as existing products to determine the cost to manufacture the product and the cost per feature.

Expert has designed electronic products which have been awarded ten U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents. He received royalty income from patents he owns and has licensed to other companies. He has studied patent claims to provide expert opinions in patent infringement lawsuits. He has testified as an expert witness at a patent infringement trial.

Expert completed the development of an RTD (resistance temperature device) input module for Allen-Bradley's SLC 500 programmable industrial controller. The module uses analog and digital (microprocessor) circuits to convert the resistance of an RTD to temperature. The module provdies high accuracy (+/- 0.5 C) over a wide range of temperatures (-200C to +850 C). In addition, the device works with 12 different types of RTDs. The algorithms used to convert RTD resistance to temperature comply with international standards for each respective RTD type (platinum RTDs, copper RTD, etc.) Expert also completed the development of an 8-channel, high-speed analog input module for Allen-Bradley's SLC 500 programmable industrial controller. The module measures current and voltage, using a 16 bit A/D converter controlled by a microprocessor, with an accuracy of better than +/- 0.1% over an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 C.

Expert developed a 3-axis magnetice field sensor that is optimized to detect slowing, moving, or stopped vehicles. The sensor's microprocessor is programmed with an algorithm that calculates deviations in magnetic field intensity while continuously compensating for circuit offset and gain variations.

He provided technical analysis of products as part of patent infringement lawsuits. He provided technical overview of electronic product design activity for a start-up company.
