Expert in Emergency Nursing, Chart Review, Chronology Writing
Expert has worked with a variety of patients in the health care setting and is knowledgeable of multiple disease processes and their presentation. An ability to accurately assess a patient in the emergency setting is critical and often done before the MD arrives. ED nurses have a higher level of autonomy than nurses in other areas and care is often initiated by the RN, under the guidance of ER physicians. Expert is proficient in this and able to competently care for and treat patients with many kinds of disease processes.
Expert has primarily worked with the geriatric population throughout her career. The community emergency department she works in does encounter pediatrics but an affiliate hospital specializes with women and children so the population is primarily geriatric. Expert is competent in identification of geriatric disease processes and the special needs of the elderly.
Expert has worked in a variety of areas within the health care system. She has worked on inpatient floors such as PCU, med-surg, and telemetry as well as working in the field in home health care. She currently works in the emergency department which is the usual beginning of the patients’ journey through the system so a knowledge of how the system works is critical. Within the emergency department, she is proficient in triage which directs the flow of the emergency department as the patients enter the unit. Identification of critical conditions, decisions on where to place patients within the department, and ordering of tests while patients wait for open exam rooms are just a part of this task.
Expert has been a legal nurse consultant since 2006. She has reviewed cases for both plaintiff and defense with rendering of professional opinion. She has assisted in locating expert witnesses. She has reviewed thousands of pages of medical records, compiling chronologies with medical definitions, tables and summaries for cases involved in medical malpractice, personal injury and in multiple class action suits. She is currently active working on medical malpractice cases - doing behind the scenes work, summarizing entire medical records.
She has given expert testimony in medical malpractice cases for both the plaintiff and the defense in Florida in the area of emergency nursing care. She has been deposed but has yet to testify. She has done extensive work compiling detailed chronologies of medical events including definitions and summaries and highlighting of key points in medical malpractice and personal injury cases involving traumatic brain injury, workman's compensation injuries, traumatic birth injury, car accidents, adverse reactions to anesthesia, incorrect concentration of medication, and failure to adequately monitor a patient, to name a few.
She worked for a year on a class action suit involving a recalled drug, compiling 100-150 page chronologies and summaries with tables that were incredibly detailed and precise and involved a large number of clients.
