Expert managed a tire components development group for a major synthetic rubber supplier for 15 years. During this time he personally established a state-of-the-art fatigue laboratory to assess the fatigue crack growth resistance of various elastomers, compounds, and blends of elastomers. Expert's 10 presentations and publications in this field from are recognized as some of the most useful to those who are concerned with establishing rubber fatigue testing and understanding the practical aspects of fracture mechanics as they apply to rubber components in service. As an invited speaker Expert has presented rubber fatigue papers at the ACS Rubber Division, The Gordon Research Conference, SAE, The Akron Rubber Group, Akron University Elastomer Service Life Symposia, and a Brazilian Rubber Congress. He was awarded the Best Paper Award for his Rubber Division paper on fatigue. Throughout his industrial career he enjoyed collaborating with scientists and engineers from a wide variety of tire companies, other suppliers, private testing laboratories and the U.S. Army. Expert served as Chairman of the ASTM Committee F-9 on Tire Testing, and as an Associate Editor of Rubber Chemistry and Technology.
