He is an internationally known expert in fire safety, explosions, and electrical fires. He has written over 300 papers and reports in the field and is the author of three books in fire safety. His handbook is the only treatise on the topic and is the largest monograph in the fire safety science field ever prepared by a single author. He has taught at several universities and serves as a Principal Member on the NFPA Technical Committee on Fire Investigations.

He is an expert on explosions and explosion safety, and his Ignition Handbook is one of the few treatises that provide extensive technical advice on aspects of this problem.

Expert is a well-known lecturer on the investigation of electrical fires and has presented courses on this topic at numerous venues. He has published extensively on the physics of electrical fires and is currently preparing a new book on electrical fires and explosions.
