He originally became involved in the subject by investigating the safety of mining lamps, and has extended his expertise to a wide variety of other topics. They include failure of medical devices and implants, consumer product failure, automotive failure and failure of pneumatic systems, as well as failure of industrial products such as storage tanks and piping systems. He is especially skilled in polymer analysis as exemplified by thermoplastics, elastomers and composites, adhesives and sealants. He has also acted as an expert witness in numerous patent disputes of mainly mechanical inventions, and has also reported on tradename, trade secrets and design rights, where he has reported on the stateExpertofExperttheExpertart, analysis of patent claims, their definition and scope.
