Expert has advanced degrees, including a Ph.D. and postdoctoral study, and over 30 years of experience in research, teaching, and extension in forest soils, including supervising over 40 graduate students, teaching dozens of classes, acquiring over $15 million in grants and funding, and working intensely in Brazil, China and Canada, and significantly in Angola, Tanzania, Indonesia on agriculture and afforestation and environmental projects. Expert enjoys taking a practical approach to his work, focusing on production and environmental solving utilizing forests as production systems and/or waste treatment systems. Expert has helped numerous industries and others solve problems of afforestation, water treatment, laboratory process, and teaching approaches. Expert is Professor of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the Employer and adjunct professor at the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP), Brazil. Expert is fluent in Portuguese and has served or is currently serving on many scientific journal editorial boards, and published numerous reports and scientific journal articles. Expert was elected a fellow (highest honor available) in the Soil Science Society of America.

He worked for World Vision setting up soil, water and plant analysis lab in Angola donated by nonprofit, but never set up and sitting unused for 2 years. I supervise a lab at my University, and setup in Angola included rewiring devices to 220V, some rewiring and soldering of corroded and broken equipment, finding sources of suitable gases for AA and flame photometer, "kludging" a high quality water system from various parts, and training lab supervisor, staff and students in Portuguese. He developed soil productivity and suitability for large Timber Investment Management Organization that acquired forestland in Washington and Oregon. Developed initial maps, and quick field methods for estimating productivity, management limitations, and policies for maintaining soil quality. He developed quality control and use protocols for wastewater irrigation of forest land, including assessment of actual treatment vs. dilution (apparent treatment) of BOD, suspended solids, ammonium, total and bioavailable P, and Coliform.

Additional Experience

Expert Witness Experience
I have helped write scientific assessments of soil-related issues relative to pollution, including impacts of waste and compost addition on soil. One written deposition on impacts of deep leaching of organic matter on mobilization of manganese in an aquifer. Attended and presented at numerous public hearings relative to applications and projects for wastewater and waste applications to soils.
Training / Seminars
It would be hard to describe all of these over so many years, but I am highly sought to train students and professionals about soil properties related to forest productivity, utilization of soils for waste treatment, and general information about regional and tropical soil properties. I have also given many short courses on soil, plant and water analysis. I am currently almost always the teacher, not the student.
Other Relevant Experience
I am adept at putting together and teaching scientific information, from pure and applied research to helping non-English scientists write high-quality material in English. I am a very experienced editor, and also highly adept with scientific equipment installation, repair and maintenance under difficult conditions.
