Expert in Imaging Systems, New Products
Since the explosion of ink jet technology ten years ago Expert has managed technical and business developments in pigmented- and dye-based inks for thermal, piezo, and continuous flow ink jet systems. His experience includes ink jet ink formulation, manufacture and performance evaluation, and development in printing systems. Expert can help clients meet the needs of this rapidly growing business, having led the development of low-cost innovative products with laser print quality, lightfastness, and water resistance in high-performance printers.
Expert's background in photopolymers, inkjet, thermal imaging, and electrophotography has been applied to the formulation of materials and the development of color imaging systems including Cromalin(R), WaterProof(R), and color electronic prepress systems. He has planned and implemented substitution technology developments for new products and systems in proofing, analog, and digital printing. He has assessed market needs in non-impact printing and planned and developed innovative products and processes for consumable materials and systems development. Expert can help clients understand the workflow in the color imaging process and plan products and processes to best meet client needs and take advantage of electronic imaging opportunities.
Expert has applied his background in imaging science, including both silver halide and novel imaging technologies, to the development and management of film or screen systems for medical diagnosis. These systems include UltraVision(R) high-resolution diagnostics, networked medical imaging devices, and computer-aided diagnostics. He can aid optimization of various components in a diagnostic imaging system both technically and economically.
Since 1997 Expert has served as Executive Director of the Applied Optics Center of Delaware. This is a consortium of companies with the University of Delaware and Delaware State University to develop new laser-based optical systems for medical, environmental and process control analytical applications.
With broad experience in photopolymer formulation and system development, Expert has worked with photoresists, printed circuit materials, electronic devices, proofing systems, printing plates, non-impact printing and digital printing systems, solid modeling, holographic imaging, and waveguides.
Expert has led new business developments and managed technology programs in many application areas for the electronics, medical, and printing industries. He has managed patent and intellectual property groups and led competitive information studies in photopolymer technology.

Expert has applied imaging science concepts and materials formulation skills to technology and new business developments in automotive, electronics, and graphic arts applications of holographic imaging systems. He has used alliances with universities and US, European, and Asia-Pacific companies to build skills. This field promises to revolutionize information storage, manipulation, and display. The availability of full color holograms and high-efficiency polymeric waveguide materials will provide imaging and information transfer capabilities with broad industry impact. Expert can guide the effective development of partnerships to pursue promising opportunities in holographic imaging, using mutually beneficial technology and business strengths to meet customer needs.
Much of Expert's career has been related to developing new and improved printing processes, most recently those involving electronic imaging and digital printing methods. He recently completed (with Art Taggi) the revised and updated Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia article on printing processes.
