He has been involved in three separate professions: oil exploration, professional writing, and law enforcement. Concentrating on "oil exploration", for which he has been highly trained, (earned two college degrees), has years of varied experience in different areas of exploration expertise, and proof of success in the amount of hydrocarbons discovered. He has also gained most of his
experience in areas (much of it overseas among primative people) where a broad area of expertise is desired, if not critical.

He considers a knowledge of the past results of exploration drilling, exploration methods used, and the sediments that make up the ground we prospect in, are
critical for gaining success in the discovery of hydrocarbons.

The term "Petroleum industry," are two words that should bring a dynamic, and vital part of the Twentieth & Twenty-First Century to mind. In his opinion, however, the recognition that the petroleum industry is the most important business in the world, goes without saying. Unfortunately, he believes that the U.S., whose oil industry once was without a peer in looking for and
producing oil, has lost its place in those undertakings due an overriding concern against taking risks: what I mean is that an explorer must take risks, inviting some failures, but beating the averages by employing bold
exploration ideas. In the 1960's & 1970's by leading aggressive exploration drilling programs, the U.S. oil industry could not be beat. After two decades of using new and much talked about technology, large oil companies still do not replace reserves produced, and drilling a dry hole is still considered unacceptable, where it was once "part of the culture" in the 1970 & 1980, when much of the gasoline still used in your car was found.
We should return to a time when a few dry hole are not always considered a "failure," but part of the learning experience. Find an oil company following that idea as part of its exploration program, will I suggest, be one of the future leaders in the industry.

In 1972 he was employed by a large major energy company (Cities Service Co.) to assist in discovering oil & gas outside of North America, as they had very little production except in the U. S. He opened a small office in 1972 in Singapore. Ten years later due largely to his efforts (his recommendations were the only ones acted on during that period), his company, Cities Service co. had found the first petroleum discoveries in the Philippines. He also had a number of gas & oil discoveries in Pakistan. When Occidential Petroleum bought his company he quit and OXY gave up the leases he had acquired as his first choice; When Oxy did this, Oxy gave up 65% of a 200 million BOE discovery in Australia, and double that in the Philippines. Shell picked up the leases that Oxy dropped and for over a decade Shell has supplied the Manila area with electricity, from prospects initially acquired & Oxy dropped. His second success in discovering large amounts of oil was in offshore northwest Peru, in 1964-6, in acreage Cities Service had farmed out years before he was hired. He must guess at the amount of oil but Belco bought the leases in 1967, with an estimated 100 million bbl of oil equivalent reserves.

International Experience

Years Country / Region Summary
Years: 1957 to 1986 Country / Region: Philippines Summary: Much has already been written about South East Asia where he spent much of his career. He lived 8-years in the Philippines, and successfully explored for oil & minerals. He discovered the first hydrocarbons in that nation in 1976, drilled in 372 feet of water offshore Palawan. The Nido discovery flowed 1,400 BOPD from 17 feet of net porosity. Three decades later the same formation that produces at Nido Field is the same formation producing in the remainder of the Philippines, except for a sand in the Nido area. To make the first discovery of oil in any nation is a major step ahead.
Years: 1963 to 1964 Country / Region: South East Asia Summary: In 1972 he moved to Singapore & opened an office for Cities Service Co. He was very successful in participating in oil & gas discoveries in Pakistan, Vietnam & Australia, while leading evaluations of properties in Indonesia, Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, and China. They are all areas in which he has traveled many times, and is very familiar with the geology, economics, officials, and petroleum prospects.
Years: 1978 to 1998 Country / Region: China Summary: He is well acquainted with most of China having made several trips there beginning in 1978, and using trains, boats, cars and aircraft to visit Beijing, Chungking, Chengdu, Wuhan, Hainan, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xian.
Years: 1978 to 1992 Country / Region: Africa (Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco, Somalia) Summary: Tunisia, Kenya and Somalia are nations where he has conducted exploration activities including drilling exploration wells, and traveled across these nations by road, making him very familiar with these countries.
Years: 1964 to 1966 Country / Region: Latin America Summary: Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Trinidad, and Peru, and several countries in Central America (Dominican Republic, & Trinidad in the Caribbean, are nations where he has traveled extensively and Peru is another area where he has led exploration ventures and been very successful finding oil production & helping sell these properties to Belco Pet.
