Expert graduated from John Hopkins University School of Medicine and trained in internal medicine. He completed his fellowships in cardiology and interventionalcardiology and currently works as the Director of the Adult Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at his afiliated university. He also maintains an active inpatient and outpatient clinical practice specializing in ischemic heart disease and currently serves as chair of a panel within the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He is Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine and an interventional cardiologist at his affiliated university. He does very limited medical legal expert consulting in the area of medical malpractice and device liability. He has experience with start-up medical device development and is currently the chair of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institutes Special Emphasis Panel for Small Business Innovation Reseach and Small Business Technology Transfer Research (SBIR/STTR) Programs.

Aside his duties as an interventional cardiologist, he also continues to perform both clinical and basic cardovascular research. His research interests are in translational cardiovascular regenerative medicine, advanced interventional cardiovascular imaging, complex coronary revascularization, percutaneous therapies for structural and valvular heart disease, drug-eluting stent development, cardiovascular gene transfer and percutaneous left ventricular assist devices, Cardiac muscle mechanics, Cellular and molecular mechanisms of contractile failure in dilated cardiomyopathies, Cardiac gene transfer, Vascular smooth muscle proliferation and restenosis, vascular biology, cardiac gene transfer and therapeutic angiogenesis. His clinical research include Percutaneous coronary revascularization, Advanced interventional cardiology techniques, including percutaneous therapies for structural heart disease, valvular heart disease, and percutaneous ventricular assist, and Percutaneous peripheral vascular interventions.

His clinical trials have been on intracoronary -irradiation to prevent restenosis in in-stent restenosis, intracoronary -irradiation to prevent restenosis in de-novo PTCA and stenting, intravenous adenosine as an adjuvant to reperfusion therapy, oral tranilast to prevent in-stent restenosis, Inhibition of atherosclerosis progression with amlodipine, embolization protection filter for saphenous vein graft PCI, device for primary PCI in acute myocardial infarction, saphenous vein graft PCI, PFO closure for cryptogenic stroke, and endomyocardial injections of endothelial progenitor cells for refractory myocardial ischemia. He has over 100 articles and abstract publications based on his clinical trials and research.

He has consulted for a number of venture capital companies, investment companies, and small, medium and large medical device companies in fields related to interventional cardiology
