Expert has 30+ years in the painting environment. He directly operated production paint departments. Expert's experience covers selecting pretreatment chemistry, coating selection and application equipment. He wrote incoming paint specifications for both liquid and powder paint. Expert also wrote specifications for durability testing of the cured coating. Expert has been project manager and designed new paint systems as well as upgraded old systems for the past 30 years. He has been trained in running designed experiments to set up processes to achieve the highest first pass yield. He has used statistical process controls to maintain quality finishes with minimal rejects. Expert did a paint line survey for a company which had problems with high defect rate as well as containment of powder problems. The survey showed no control of wash chemistry-hole in burner tube-cross draft in paint booth which was loosing much powder-air seal not working on bake oven. Expert made recommendations and brought in contractor to replace burner tube. Expert consulted with a company which sprayed liquid and wanted to change to powder. He made recommendations as to cleaning, coating and curing. He had chemical supplier meet with them about cleaning needs. They switched to powder and had no problems. Expert tested sample coupons and they were cured properly and had perfect adhesion. Expert consulted with a company over the phone. They wanted to update the bake oven and do some conveyor reconfiguration. He had both conveyor company and oven contractor come to customer.Expert consulted with a company that had a problem with paint adhesion on specific parts. Upon examination he found that the problem parts were all made of certified steel which has a higher carbon content than the majority of their components. The problem parts were over baked and the coating was brittle. He recommended turning the oven down from 385 degrees to 325 degrees and the problem parts were all good. Expert called the paint manufacturer and gave him the information on the test run. Paint manufacturer is adjusting formula for lower cure. Expert is presently doing a liquid to powder conversion. This includes liquid equipment tear out. New powder booths will be installed and environmental room built around equipment. There will be monorail modification as well as reengineer a heat disipation tunnel. This project will be finished by 1/04/16. On 1/04/16 production started on two shifts without any problems. Recipes were developed and project was successful.
