Expert (pronounced zoo-ick, and ) has been involved in applying machine vision, pattern recognition, and three dimensional machine vision for over 20 years, the last 10 as an independent consultant. He is Certified as a Manufacturing Engineer in machine vision by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He has consulted with clients in virtually every manufacturing industry, including food, pharmaceuticals, automotive, primary metals, fabricated metals, semiconductors, electronics, wood products, plastics, web processes, wovens, non-wovens, paper, printing, and utilities. Applications of his work include gauging, pattern recognition, flaw analysis and machine guidance/visual servoing, and color in both two- and three-dimensional domains.

Expert has been involved in the application of automated inspection and non-destructive testing technologies for over 20 years. While his emphasis has been on machine vision and automated optical, non-contact technology, he has developed substantial familiarity in virtually all aspects of non-destructive testing and automated inspection technology. These include intelligent sensors, ultrasonics, thermal imaging, infrared, x-rays, ultraviolet, laser triangulation, laser ranging and radar, microwave, color, and eddy currents. He has edited the Addison Wesley "Handbook of Intelligent Sensors for Industrial Automation." Both application and marketing related assignments have been undertaken.


Expert has been involved in applying image processing and computer vision analysis techniques in a variety of fields other than machine vision, such as scientific, biomedical, document, and remote sensing. Both application and marketing related assignments have been undertaken.

Expert has over 20 years of experience related to the use of computers to generate images and operate on images acquired from a variety of sensors, including applications in manufacturing industries, offices, scientific instruments, health care, military, and aerospace. He has conducted extensive counseling, including in-plant seminars, analysis of opportunities at a facility, application feasibility assessment, specification writing, acceptance test planning, vendor identification and recommendations, proposal and vendor evaluations, and project management. In addition, he has authored and edited several books on machine vision, and has written over 50 articles and conducted over 50 public and private seminars. Expert has over 30 years of involvement with electro-optical sensors, transducers, instruments and systems.
