Expert began his real estate career in 1986 in downtown Minneapolis leasing high-rise office buildings and retail space. Discovering a penchant for retail leasing, Expert joined a boutique shopping center owner/manager where he leased specialty malls. Shortly thereafter, Expert was recruited to work for a national REIT, pre-leasing shopping centers in the development phase.

Desiring to broaden his knowledge of property ownership and financing techniques, Expert earned a masters’ degree from the University of Denver in 1990 in real estate and construction management. Relocating to California, Expert worked in the institutional apartment industry performing market research and managing commercial and multifamily portfolios throughout southern California before relocating to Maryland to oversee the asset management of a nationwide real estate portfolio of equity investments, foreclosures and loan workouts.

Expert started his own Baltimore-based real estate brokerage firm in 2000 which grew steadily by specializing in investment transactions. In addition, Expert began his own mortgage lending firm in 2003 specializing in private mortgages and in 2010 expanded into loan servicing.

In 2011, Expert joined a Baltimore-based real estate owner-operator as its acquisition and asset management officer for its $50 million portfolio, eventually becoming its director of investments overseeing all phases of commercial and multifamily acquisitions, asset management, financial analysis, due diligence, financing, commercial leasing, mortgage note management and loan servicing to the portfolio’s eventual growth to $350 million.

In 2017, Expert started Amberstone Capital, a private equity firm dedicated to forming strategic partnerships to provide liquidity to real estate transactions in targeted markets nationwide to acquire multifamily and industrial properties. Amberstone and its strategic partners intend to ultimately build programmatic portfolios with the goal to sell them into a REIT or other public institutional platform.
