Dr. J. Expert has over 30 years' experience in materials failure analysis and materials characterization as well as chemical analysis of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and foods.

Expert's materials experience has included investigations of metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, and composites by laboratory analysis. His specific strengths are the characterization of materials chemistry, microstructure, and fractography; identification of polymers, additives in commercial plastics, and other organic and inorganic unknowns; determination and development of product formulations; and analysis of corrosion, arson, drug, and other forensic residues.

Areas of materials laboratory analysis in which Expert is very experienced include light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray microanalysis (EDS), surface analysis by Auger electron spectroscopy and XPS photoemission spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, microFTIR infrared spectroscopy, and physical testing. His extensive background in materials failure analysis and metallurgy is applied to many applications including structures, vehicles, industrial plants, electronics, appliances, and biomedical devices in the areas of product liability litigation, forensics, patent infringement, and materials failure analysis.

Expert's chemical analysis experience has included laboratory analysis of unknown materials, residues, and formulations. His specific strengths are identification of polymers, additives in commercial plastics, and other organic and inorganic unknowns; determination and development of product formulations; and analysis of arson, drug, and other forensic residues.

Areas of laboratory analysis in which Expert is very experienced include UV-visible, fluorescence, microFTIR infrared spectroscopy; gas, GC/MS, liquid, HPLC, TLC, and column chromatography; DSC thermal analysis; light, fluorescence, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) including x-ray microanalysis (EDS). His extensive background in analytical chemistry, microbiology, and metallurgy is applied to many applications including drugs, cosmetics, food/beverages, and packaging in the areas of QA/QC, product liability and development, forensics, patent infringement, and personal injury litigation.
