Expert has been a practicising midwife, both in consultant and midwifery led care for the past 12 years. She holds current registered midwife status with the UK nursing and midwifery council. Has completed an LLM (masters degree) in medical law and practice (2007), in which her dissertation focused on end of life decisions in neonates from a judicial and ethical point of view. She also had undergraduate degrees (BSc) in Midwifery (2001) and in Biomedical science (pharmacology) (1997).

Currently Expert is employed by Employer as a lecturer in midwifery on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and is link lecturer to a local hospital NHS trust, where she liases with both students and mentors in practice and is involved in educational audit and policy review. Her primary areas of teaching are centred on the areas of medical law and ethics, public health and substance misuse.

She is also currently working on a proposal for her PhD in the area of policy drivers in midwifery.
