Expert Details

Modelling of Electromagnetic Systems and Components; Applied Electronics

ID: 733861 Italy

Request Expert

Expert has modeled electromagnetic systems such as electric motors, electromagnetic stirrers for molten metals, and electromagnetic heaters. He has done so by using both a theoretical approach (applied physics and mathematics) and numerical simulations.

Expert collaborated on the design of electromagnetic heaters and stirrers for an Italian company that sells them worldwide.

He performed analysis, modelling and simulation of industrial plants and machines, especially in the fields of thermal physics and electromagnetism. Some examples:
−design of electronic controls for energy-efficiency in domestic appliances, especially refrigerators;
−modeling of electrical motors for refrigeration compressors;
−mathematical modeling and simulation of induction heaters for aluminum foundries;
−modeling and simulation of magnetic stirrers for molten metals;
−modeling and design of dross coolers for aluminum foundries;
−modeling of heat transfer in industrial ovens;
−modeling of thermal behavior of electrical components and power plants.

Additional Experience

Expert Witness Experience
In 2010 he was appointed as Expert Witness in a patent infringiment lawsuit. A Japanese company threatened a lawsuit for patent infringiment against an Italian company over an electronic device for refrigeration compressors developed by the Italian firm. The potential market for the device was of about ten millions items sold annually. The Japanese company claimed that one of its patents covered a key aspect of the device. He produced a technical report for the law firm hired by the Italian company, to be used in the trial. After an exchange of documents between the two law firms, the companies reached an agreement before the trial. The Italian company agreed to buy a key component of the new device from the Japanese company, that in exchange dropped the accusation.

In 2017 he was appointed as Expert Witness in a patent infringiment trial brought by another Italian company against a Swedish company. The Swedish company had started to sell a particular type of electric motor claiming it had a "low-inertia rotor", a characteristic cited in a patent of the Italian company. He produced a report with a detailed explanation of the "low-inertia" concept that was appreciated as very clear by the law firm hired by the Italian company. The report demonstrated on physics grounds that the Swedish claims of "low-inertia" were covered by the patent, and the verdict of the trial was in favor of the Italian company.
