Expert in Non-Stick Coatings, Thermal Spray Coatings
Expert developed several processes for cladding one powder to another to create composite structures. He has developed techniques for compositing metals and ceramics with Teflon and other plastics for thermal spraying duplex coatings.
Expert has analyzed the broad coatings market, and is ideally positioned to recommend the best process for solving surface problems. He has compared vapor processes, electro- and electroless plating, thermal spraying, plastic coating, and hard face welding to come up with appropriate solutions.
A significant portion of Expert's career has involved spraying processes, including electric arc; combustion spraying, air plasma and low-pressure plasma spraying; and flame spraying. During his 27 years with the Metco Division of Perkin-Elmer, and through broadening his expertise in consulting, he has acquired a unique perspective on each subject.
Expert has developed TBC materials and has designed TBC coatings for gas turbines and diesel engines. He is also familiar with manufacturing processes for producing ceramic composites.
Expert developed coating specifications for a Fortune 500 company to control the quality of vendor-supplied sprayed coatings. Specifications included powder-type and manufacturing path, surface preparation, spray process controls and parameter limitations, coating properties, and quality assurance testing.
Expert has provided plasma and HVOF powder specifications tailored for a specific application. He also optimized powder usage by improving deposit efficiency.
Expert's has experience with thermal sprayed composite Teflon/metal coatings in applications requiring non-stick coatings. Industries finding use for these specialty non-stick coatings include paper, textile, rubber, and plastic. He has three patents, and a fourth pending, on the subject of producing thermal sprayed composite coatings comprising hard wear resistant materials with Teflon particles dispersed through the matrix. The resulting coatings provide non-stick and release properties combined with long life wear. Coatings with FEP, PTFE, PFA and ETFE are available with ceramic, tungsten carbide or metals. Standard plasma and combustion spray systems can be used.
Expert developed composite coatings comprising metal or ceramics with Teflon while consulting with a client. Three patents have resulted from this consulting work.He used composite metal/Teflon technology to develop non-stick coatings for a client.
