Expert has both a theoretical background and hands-on knowledge of extrusion processes of all types, including coatings, lamination, and film production. He has broad experience with these processes and the corresponding equipment. He has worked on the production floor with the most sophisticated extrusion, coextrusion, and extrusion/coextrusion coating operations. He has worked extensively with resins, including PVDC, EVOH, nylon, and the full range of polyolefin resins (including metallocene).

Expert has experience designing products from virtually every available flexible film, particularly for packaging designs. He also has experience manufacturing most of the individual films or laminates that make up the product design. Expert has knowledge of a wide variety of film and film laminates, including their important advantages and normal uses. Each film or laminate has many properties, such as barriers to moisture, oxygen, and flavor; mechanical properties involving tensile strength, elongation, COF, and machinability; and chemical properties, such as resistance to hydrocarbons or grease. Expert has worked for over 20 years to build his knowledge of films and laminates, each of their characteristics and real world experience on how to apply them to applications. He has worked with biaxially-oriented film, blown film, cast film, and extruded film.


Expert has designed flexible packages from nearly every available flexible substrate. He has integrated the needs of the end user and the packaging producer, both technically and economically. He has worked with market plans, pricing, and in the area of new product development. This includes the market development, although Expert's work typically included the development of a new product, not just the development of a new market for an existing product.

While with Rexam, Expert worked extensively with medical device packaging materials. He is knowledgeable of ISO and GMP programs associated with marketing and manufacturing plastic films for accounts such as Baxter International, Becton Dickinson, and Johnson & Johnson. He managed strategic and technical goals of marketing, product, process, and application teams.


Expert has experience designing packages from a variety of plastic materials. He is familiar with the manufacture of plastic sheet and the use of thermoforming. He has worked extensively with folding cartons, where a lamination of board and plastic film is used.

Expert has experience with polymer processing and the resultant properties of most polymers. He can apply specific polymers for the end use application and take into account the myriad variables involved in processing the polymer into a final product.

With his broad experience in the plastics and flexible packaging industries, Expert can profile most participants and many of their products currently on the market. He knowledge also lends itself to competitive intelligence within the plastics industry.


Expert has worked his entire career closely associated with the new product development process. An extremely important aspect of this process is determining market potential. Expert has become very adept at the entire new product development process through over 20 years working in this field. His work has involved not just developing the market and the product itself, but also the process used to produce the product.


Expert has extensive knowledge of the production and application of shrink films, barrier shrink films, shrink bags, and barrier shrink bags. He has on-the-production-floor experience making these products with the biaxial orientation process. He also has experience marketing shrink wrapped films to end users.


Expert has specified and used a wide variety of polymers for heat seal materials. He has worked with polyethylenes, EVA, EAA, LLDPE, VLDPE, ULDPE, ionomers, metallocenes (including Dow Affinity and Exxon Exact), random copolymer polypropylenes, and metallocene polypropylenes. Applications include high hot tack materials (ionomer, LLDPE, and new metallocene) for vertical form fill sealing applications. EVA and very low-density materials in combination with irradiation for low-temperature shrink bags. Expert has detailed knowledge of peelable heat seal materials for the medical packaging market, where very exact peel characteristics and tamper evidence are required.


Expert has been involved with polyethylene for over 20 years. He has packaging design and processing experience with high-pressure polyethylene, including the subtle variations in the resins made from autoclave and tubular reactors. EVA resins, especially for shrink applications, are well-known to Expert. He worked for Union Carbide when the first low-pressure linear low-density polyethylene resins were introduced. He has worked with very low-density, ultra low-density and metallocene products as they have been developed and introduced into the marketplace. Expert knows the packaging performance characteristics and processing parameters for all of these materials.
