Expert is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and is the medical director of Pediatric Ophthalmology for the Children's Hospital. He is also a full-time pediatric ophthalmologist with the Illinois Employer in Peoria, Illinois. He has been the principle investigator on numerous Phase 3 and Phase 4 studies in the use of ocular fluoroquinolones in pediatric patients including ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin. He has also done both Phase 3 and Phase 4 studies in ocluar anti-allergy medications involving olopatadine 0.1% ophthalmic as well as olopatadine 0.2% ophthalmic solutions.

Expert is currently one of the principle investigators in the Phase 2 clinical trials of intravitreal bevacizumab (AvastinTM) injections versus conventional laser surgery for vision-threatening retinopathy of prematurity. He is also the principle investigator of a Phase 3 clinical study for the treatment of viral conjunctivitis.

Expert has served on the executive committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Ophthalmology for over 10 years, as well as serving as Chair of the Section on Ophthalmology.

Expert has given over 500 presentations at various meetings. Some of the topics of his presentations include: Orbital Foreign Body in a 7 Year Old missed due to Concurrent Arachnoid Cyst, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Ocular Manifestations of Marfan's Syndrome, Direct Ophthalmoscopy for the Pediatrician, Efficacy and Safety of 0.5% Levofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution for the Treatment of Bacterial Conjunctivitis, New Advances in Ophthalmic Fluoroquinolones, Treatment of the Red Eye, Differential Diagnosis and Management of the Red Eye, and Pediatric Ophthalmology. He taught for the American Academy of Pediatric's National Conference and Exhibition for 30 years, retiring from this position in 2017. This workshop continues to be the longest running workshop in AAP NCE history, Direct Ophthalmoscopy for the Pediatrician.

Expert has been an expert witness in numerous legal proceedings representing both the plaintiff and the defense in medical malpractice cases. He has been an expert witness for the prosecution in numerous criminal cases involving non-accidental trauma/abusive head trauma (Shaken Baby).

Expert has experience working as a consultant for Alcon Laboratories, Inc., NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, RPS, Inc, as well as Santen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
