FIBER OPTICS; OPTICAL COMMUNICATION. Expert has been involved in fiber optic communications since the earliest days of its commercial application. Starting with his employment with Siecor Corporation, a major manufacturer of fiber optic cable and components, he was involved with component design as well as the development of installation, testing, and documentation issues. He was involved with some of the first demonstrations of single mode technology and authored many of the manuals detailing the operation of Siecor splicing and testing products. His subsequent efforts have included the design of one of the largest "fiber to the faceplate" installations in the US.

LOCAL AREA NETWORK. Expert has had responsibility for the design and implementation of numerous 802.3 (Ethernet), 802.5 (Token Ring), FDDI, and other networks using optical fiber, twisted pair, and coaxial media. Component selection, network topology, evaluation of competing product offerings, and support of an organizations migration to new physical layer structures have been a key feature of his company's services since 1988. He is especially proud of his role as consulting engineer on a successful project involving over 300 networks serving a total of 2500+ users.

TELECOMMUNICATION. Expert's entire career has been directed toward the design and implementation of telecommunication systems. He has a wide range of capabilities and design sensitivity that covers workplace and wide-area issues stemming from his involvement with a telephone operating company, a cable and component manufacturer, a systems integrator, and as a consultant to contractors and end-users.
