Expert originally trained as a Physicist, completing a PhD in Polymer Physics at the University of Leeds in 1987. He then joined Chemicals multinational ICI, and worked in a number of different roles including technical support, new product development, new business development, and sales before moving into procurement as Engineering Contracts Manager. Since setting up Employer in 1998, he has worked extensively in the UK Public Sector, and in the Engineering, Chemicals and Sports industries. He conducts training in commercial skills around the world, and is an associate lecturer at the University of Bradford School of Management.

He has carried out a wide range of projects for clients including the OECD, UK public sector bodies, and private sector companies.
