Expert's expertise lies in the area of heavy metal chemistry with an emphasis on solution behavior. His research in the last decade has been heavily involved with modelling by laboratory experiment of the environmental behavior of the actinide elements, including uranium and plutonium and with the chemistry of separation science of the f-elements. He was the co-discoverer of the element 101, mendelevium, in 1955. He has also worked with americium, curium, neptunium, thorium, berkelium, californium, einsteinium, fermium, lawrencium, and nobelium.

Expert is currently involved in research with lanthanide elements with implications in magnetic resonance imaging. Lanthanides that he has studied include: cerium, europium, gadolinium, lanthanum, neodymium, samarium, dysprosium, erbium, holmium, lutetium, terbium, thulium, and ytterbium.

Expert may consult nationally and internationally, and is also local to the following cities: Tallahassee, Florida - Dothan, Alabama - Albany, Georgia
