Rubber Compounder and Tool Designer

ID: 736142 Pennsylvania, USA

Request Expert

Expert in: Elastomer development and processing.

Expert works for a management team that has over 100 years of combined rubber experience. Expert is committed to long-term partnerships with associates, customers and community.

President of a rubber company since 2004, Expert has served the company for more than 40 years. He has published numerous white papers on rubber and rubber injection molding. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in chemistry, Expert is a board member of the local hospital and several not-for-profit organizations.

With extensive experience designing elastomeric components, Expert holds several patents and has several patents pending, primarily with elastomeric isolation products.

Expert's company is a privately held Pennsylvania corporation that began operation in 1961, with only three presses, one mill, and one 3” extruder. With just 4 employees in a 2800 square foot area, the rubber company produced its first shipment of rubber elbows, a product that remains in production today.

Through the continued dedication and pride of its employees and the commitment of management to the highest degree of customer satisfaction Expert's company has grown significantly over the past 50 plus years.

Today, Expert's company has grown into a multi-million dollar organization occupying 142,000 square feet with over 40 employees.

Expert designs and develops solutions for noise, vibration, shock, sealing, motion accommodation, and many other elastomer applications while achieving the best overall cost and meeting engineering performance criteria.

As a leading elastomer compounder and molder, Expert maintains a complete testing lab and prototyping facility. His company is one of the few elastomer manufacturers who mixes and tests our elastomer batches on premise. Because of this, Expert possesses an extensive elastomer physical property and dynamic property database. These databases include the necessary constants to do non-linear finite element modeling of elastomeric components.

Expert considers product life, dynamic and static spring rate, damping properties, chemical and environmental exposure, odor, tensile strength, and other attributes in developing value-added solutions. Some of the design and testing technologies he uses include:

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with hyperelastic nonlinear material models to capture elastomer behavior
3D CAD Parametric Software
3D Elastomer Injection Molding Modeling Software
Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
In-house lab equipment to validate elastomer performance criteria

Expert's laboratory can develop compounds to meet customer specifications. The raw materials which are sourced domestically and internationally for these compounds typically consist of:
Natural and synthetic elastomers
Carbon black
Zinc oxide
Clay
Sulfur
Vulcanization accelerators
Antioxidant and Antiozonants

Upon receipt of raw materials and approval by our lab, the materials are blended or “compounded” into a batch in accordance with documented procedures for that particular material.

Expert's company molding facilities include state-of-the-art computer controlled injection presses that are networked together with a master supervision computer. This allows him to offer fully automated injection molding presses that are continuously fed and automatically operated, producing shot after shot of molded product ready for shipment or subsequent finishing operations. Direct computerized monitoring equipment insures accuracy in regards to heat, pressure and curing time. He also utilizes conventional presses for compression and transfer molding.

Expert takes pride in its extensive production capabilities, concern for minimal environmental impact, and dedication to continually modernizing his operation to meet growing customer requirements.
