Request Expert

Expert A. Expert has spent over eight years conducting research on the Claus process for a major sour gas producer. During this time he compared the performance of commercial and experimental catalysts, investigated catalyst deactivation, and improved procedures for catalyst rejuvenation. He developed and patented a new honeycomb catalyst to reduce formation of carbon-sulfur side products and sulfur emissions.

Expert participated in a multi-disciplinary search for sour gas processes that could potentially offer major cost savings compared to the currently accepted combination of amine treating/Claus process/tail gas unit. He considered many in-house and third party schemes and contributed to process improvements for some of these schemes.

Expert has several years of experience in hydrogen sulfide electrolysis and the use of microwave plasma to dissociate hydrogen sulfide. He has completed a multi-client

Expert developed two solvent-based production schemes that prevents sulfur plugging for a gas well containing elemental sulfur. He also was responsible for managing a research project that developed a process for producing ultra-sour gas. This process prevents fouling by solid sulfur and is considered a key technology.

Having employed plasma technology to hydrogen sulfide cracking, Expert has experience with plasma processes to achieve industrially important chemical conversions. He is involved in a study on plasma-based processes for converting methane to higher-valued products.

Expert supervised research on finding analytical methods for determining trace mercury levels in sour gas and other streams. As a consequence, he assembled an extensive body of literature on mercury. Analytical techniques for sour and sweet streams were selected and successfully applied.

Expert has researched the subject of deactivation and rejuvenation of alumina-based sulfur catalyst, and gives presentations on the subject.

Expert has written papers and gives presentations on sulfur recovery by the Claus process.

Expert has experience in troubleshooting Claus sulfur plants (e.g. the effect of methanol). He has worked on preventing sulfur deposition in a flowing gas well (by use of ammonia; regeneration of the spent ammonia). Expert has evaluated a new device for dehydration of natural gas. Expert evaluated a process for manufacturing sulfur or sulfuric acid from waste sulfur-containing gas. Expert has reviewed and evaluated a large number of processes being explored for manufacture of hydrogen from H2S.
