SPEECH WRITING. Most corporate managers and executives are quite able to write their own speeches, yet there are many occasions when this is not practical. It requires taking time from other duties, or, because the occasion is of such importance, it calls for the efforts of a professional. Expert's speech writing is primarily for CEOs and high-level executives, for those special circumstances when they perceive that the image they project is of paramount importance, or when they need to be profound, convincing, or motivating.
TECHNICAL WRITING. In the vast majority of circumstances, technical writing is best done by company personnel who are already well-versed in the products and technology. However, this in-house writing effort is rarely based on an adequate understanding of underlying principles, such as the need to define the audience, the criteria for selection of a basis for organizing the material, and determining what to include, what to leave out, what to mention in the appendices, and the most effective use of diagrams and photos. Expert's most valuable contribution to this area is in consulting on the organization, approach, style, and related issues, and in directing the efforts of the in-house writer or writing staff.
