As an independent consultant, Expert, Jr. has provided strategic product development services to companies involved in marketing products to coating manufacturers. He also has provided product development consulting to small paint companies. As Vice President of Research and Development for ICI Paints, Expert provided executive leadership for the company's product development and product stewardship activities for the architectural, container, automotive refinish, and industrial markets. His responsibility included laboratories in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA. He was responsible for identifying the research and development portfolio and for completing new product development projects. Under his leadership, ICI continually introduced new products including the first no-VOC latex paint and the first powder coating used by the automotive industry. His experience includes the development and market introduction of acrylic, vinyl acetate-acrylic, polyester, urethane, and epoxy coatings. His experience also includes the development and market introduction of powder, high solids and waterborne coatings. His company also developed and manufactured many of the polymer resins used in their coatings. Early in his career, Expert formulated latex paints for the architectural coatings market and holds three patents in the area.

Expert has over 35 years paint industry experience. His career started as paint formulation chemist and progressed to senior technical officer and vice president for ICI Paints. He now provides consulting services to the industry. His responsibilities have included strategic planning, new product development, new product market introduction and developing effective relationships with suppliers, customers, and universities.

As the senior executive of research and development for ICI Paints, Expert introduced stage-gate project management and 3rd generation R&D portfolio management. He also developed unique models for management of intellectual property and university relationships. He introduced models for strategic decision making. He introduced methods for monitoring the performance of the R&D function. He introduced methods for decreasing the time required to develop new products. He organized a worldwide R&D function around core technical competencies.
