Substation Design, Protection, HV and EHV Equipment, Electrical System Study
ID: 729494
New Jersey, USA
Expert is familiar with all the equipments used in a substation such as medium and high voltage circuit breakers (dead tank and live tank), high voltage generator step up transformers, unit auxiliary transformers, substation transformers, substation DC distribution system, AC distribution system, disconnection switches and instrument transformers. He has designed new substations and/or upgraded existing substations from 500kV to 12kV. For new substations, he has performed site selection based on the criteria provided by the client. For existing substations, he has performed required upgrades such as replacement or addition of equipment under live operating conditions and minimizing outage. For all such cases, he has also prepared construction sequence for properly switching over to a new facility.
Expert has extensive experience in electrical circuit control, protection and coordination. He has performed relay settings and coordination for various utilities, government facilities, and industrial clients. He has prepared relay settings based on client philosophy, system requirement, and international standards using various relay setting software and developed detailed reports explaining the final relay settings. He is also familiar with various protective functions provided by relays and design redundancy or back-up protective systems.
He has also performed design verification and calculated necessary figures to ensure that overall relay protection system, including main current transformer, auxiliary current transformer and cable and protective relay, operates as required with maximum reliability and security.
Expert has extensive experience in specifying and designing control panels. As a part of various utility related new and upgrade projects, he has prepared technical specifications, Bill of Material, front elevation, wiring and name plate schedule. He has coordinated activities among client, circuit designer, control panel vendor and various equipment suppliers. He has also been involved with numerous retrofit projects where only part of the panel is replaced with new equipment to ensure compatibility with the existing breakers and instrument transformers. He has also developed control panel design to meet international standards for ingress of water and dust.
Expert has worked on various medium voltage power distribution projects for large industrial clints such as oil refineries and mininig and government facilities. He has experience in designing switchgear for power generation plant for station service and auxiliaries. He has prepared technical specifications, one line drawings, selected equipment ratings, and provided necessary inputs to vendor to custom build equipment. He has also designed the control building to install switchgear, battery, charger, SCADA system, power distribution, fire protection and other auxiliary systems to maximize manufactuirng at the factory. Expert has created detailed technical specifications for all subsystems, performed bid evaluations and negotiated with vendors to meet all of the technical requirements. He has also reviewed vendor documents and ensured that all subsystems are coordinated and integrated properly. Additionally, he has performed Factory Acceptance Test for switchgear and control building.
Expert has studied power distribution systems for various industrial and federal clients where future expansion of the facility is to be evaluated. He has prepared various alternatives and provided initial cost estimates for budgetary purposes. He has supported his study with existing arrangements, expected future growth and requirements, replacement of facilities, new additions and benefits of such alternatives.
He has also designed upgrades of the existing facilities to provide concept design, evaluate major electrical equipment requirements and determine cost estimate. He has also coordinated activities with various agencies involved with the upgrading of the system.
