Request Expert

Expert is a media specialist who has worked across the industry, from covering Old Bailey trials to writing for tabloid newspapers to producing high profile live events for the BBC. Programmes she has worked on include Children in Need, Watchdog, Trooping the Colour, the Papal Visit to the UK and Remembrance Sunday.

She was a print reporter on national newspapers and specialist journals before moving into broadcast journalism and joining the BBC. As a television producer she worked on news and current affairs, documentaries and investigative programmes, then specialised in live events.

This broad range of knowledge, skills and experience provides Expert with a powerful insight into how the media operates and the best way for companies and organisations to deal with journalists and raise their profile. She now runs the successful media consultancy and training company, Employer, which provides expert media support to clients ranging from Nokia to the University of Cambridge. This includes training in media and interview skills, and crisis communications, as well as providing strategic advice on how to handle the media.

She has worked closely with a client who wanted to frame an effective response to a government review into their industry. This included helping to develop and frame key messages in response to the review, working out the best means to response, including timings, sourcing press conference locations, advising on press conference management and rehearsing both press conference and different types of interview, bringing in specialist a presentation trainer and providing support and advice on the day of the review. She was called in by a client who had a marketing background, and who had recently been appointed to handle media relations for his organisation. Expert devised a bespoke day in which she advised on how to develop and widen his media contacts, worked on potential positive stories about his organisation, did some one-to-one interview skills training, advised him on how to brief and potential colleagues for media interviews, and worked on the organisation's response to some potentially difficult issues.
