This includes serving as an expert witness, assisting inventors with intellectual property representation, prototype and product development, product licensing, branding, and packaging analysis, and connecting them with toy manufacturers and retailers. He also assists the United States and international toy companies, including manufacturers and importers of consumer toy products, with developing business models for the toy industry and children’s media markets. He also conducts primary, secondary, and experiential research and analysis for clients to assist them with penetrating new channels of trade or to expand current ones within the toy market.
Expert has provided expert witness testimony to a number of companies including Hasbro, DC Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Rubiks Cube, and Lanard Toys.
Expert co-produces the annual Toy Talks Forum in Guangzhou China and regularly attends and participates as a guest speaker at various toy industry events and trade shows in New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, China, Nuremberg, Germany, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Due to his experience and expertise in the toy industry, he has been interviewed by hundreds of global media outlets, including ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, and Newsweek, regarding toy industry issues. Expert is a voting member of the National Toy Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Expert has appeared as an expert witness in a number of cases. As an example, in a case in which he represented defendant DC Entertainment, he demonstrated the clear differences not just in the characters but in the demographics between Hasbro's Transformer Bumblebee character and DC's Bumblebee character. Recently, because of his knowledge of Target's sourcing and buying practices, he was able to make the case that Target had pirated intellectual property from his client, Lanard Toys. Target settled the day after he testified.
