After earning an MBA, with major concentration in commercial real estate, from The Ohio State University, he began working for The Trammell Crow Company. Here he was involved in the development and leasing of shopping centers, including the 700,000 SF Largo Mall.

In 1996, he opened a Raleigh, NC office for The Shopping Center Group, an Atlanta, GA based retail tenant representation brokerage firm. In this capacity, he assisted national merchants in their efforts to locate new store sites. He served as regional representative for many merchants, including Costco, Office Depot, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Sprint, Embarq, Radio Shack, The Mattress Firm, Northern Tool, Old Navy, and AC Moore Arts and Crafts.

In 2000, he left The Shopping Center Group and began his own business. His 3 broker office supplies site-selection services to retailers, and also leasing services to landlords.

In numerous assignments as an expert witness for the NC DOT, he analyzed the retail viability of the taken land, to check claims by plaintiff that, in the pre-taking condition, the site had significant value as a potential shopping center development. In each case, he determined that the site had greater development value after the taking, as a result of the improved or additional roadways. He prepared Geographic Information Systems (GIS) exhibits and demographic studies to demonstrate the qualities of the site both pre- and post-taking. He has given testimony in court, and been allowed as an expert witness.
