Request Expert

Expert has over twenty five year's experience in condition monitoring and machinery vibration analysis, gained in the metals, oil and gas, petrochemical food and utilities industries. In this time he has built up a track record of diagnosing and solving machinery vibration and reliability problems and providing Condition Monitoring programmes that deliver lasting reliability improvements to clients. He has used a variety of vibration analysis techniques including spectral analysis, time waveform and phase analysis, operational deflection shape modelling, modal analysis and run-up and coastdown analysis to diagnose machinery problems on gas turbines, motors, generators, compressors, fans, pumps, gearboxes, paper machines, large machine tools, cranes, extruders and materials handling plant. Problems are permanently solved for clients through through specification of improved maintenance procedures, improved lubrication, machinery redesign, in-situ balancing, precision alignment, structural modification or use of dynamic absorbers. He has balanced in-situ a wide range of machinery, from a 787 tonne 48-pole flywheel generator rotating at 120 rpm to a 24,000 rpm gas compressor. He is a certified Level III Vibration Analyst (Mobius Institute). He has a very good practical understanding and hands on experience of additional condition monitoring techniques such as thermography, oil analysis, acoustic emission, ultrasonics and motor current signature analysis which he uses alongside vibration to build up a complete picture of machinery condition.

Over 25 years, firstly as as a research officer, plant improvement engineer and then as a consultant, Expert has successfully led and facilitated many investigations in to the root-causes of and solutions to industrial machinery reliability problems in the metals, oil and gas, chemical and food and beverage industries and has developed a pragmatic, structured, evidence based, teachable process specifically targeted at industrial reliability problems which uses the strengths of different RCA tools to best advantage as didcated by the circumstances of each problem.
