Expert's research expertise is in the use of packetization, interleaving, error resilience, forward error correction, unequal error protection, and other techniques to mitigate video streaming over wireless networks. He has a good working knowledge of video coding. For example, he was a leading contributor to an Ofcom report on future video codecs. He regularly reviews for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology and IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, as well as reviewing for related IEEE Transactions journals. Consequently, he has many recent research papers on video communication over WiMAX and also over Bluetooth. Additionally, he has researched congestion control methods for video communication over the wired Internet. He came to this research field through parallel computing, including the use of FPGAs and modular parallel processors, and in that connection (high-speed processing thrugh parallelism) he has worked in the related applications of document compression, and low-level image compression. His total research output over 17 years is over 200 papers.
