He mostly served as VP of Engineering at Polycom where he delivered the company’s first High-Definition Video Conferencing systems (HDX 9000). In addition to the HD systems, the industry leading telepresence solution was created by this engineering team and now is the fastest growing product in Polycom history. As part of the Polycom Unified Collaboration Suite of products, he led the team to integrate the industry leading Polycom Conference Room phone into the collaboration suite allowing the launch of a video call from an active audio conference. Later, the team moved video to all IP phone at the end users office. These technology leadership advances makes Polycom the recognized world leader in videotelephony as well as leader in broadband communication.

His background includes CTO and VP of Engineering at VTEL Communications and Forgent Networks where he led the $125M patent portfolio strategy and M&A and drove the strategy and direction to create the first heterogeneous Video Network Management Platform before the company software business was sold to Tandberg. The systems network management software allows Tandberg to interoperate with all video conferencing solution providers, and allows seamless integration into data management tools like Hewlett Packard Openview and IBM's NetCool.

Most recently, Expert has spent the past 3 years with Personalized Media Communications as the Vice President of Licensing, where his duties included the production of Claim Charts and asserting patent claims in the area of multimedia, broadcast television, streaming audio and video, and data storage of digital media. He met directly with the largest of the world's Television, broadcast, and Streaming Media providers.

His had numerous assignments in his 18 year career at IBM including HQ assignments and delivery of IBM’s PowerPC, the first High Availability Cluster Multi-Processor (HACMP) Fault Tolerant System, IBM’s Broadcast Media Streamer, Digital Ad/Spot Insertion System, Video on Demand System, and VideoCharger the Streaming Audio and Video over the Internet system.

His holds a BS degree in Computer Science and a MS degree in Computer Engineering and was selected by IBM to attend the Duke University Fugua School of Business Management for Executives.

He provided pricing information to help determine proper usage model and investment strategy.Banking members wanted to understand industry trends and directions and if the current positive market sales trends could continue for the video conferencing and telepresence industry. They needed to understand the gross margin analysis and why this industry does not seem more competition.Hong Kong financial company was looking for due diligence prior to making an investment in a video company. 3. JPEG Patent. $25M Negotiated Settlement. Continued license program for next 3 years generating over $125M in license revenues.

4. Civil case brought by estate of deceased Board Member and Patent Council member. Provided Expert testimony on behalf of Company. Settlement on behalf of Company.

5. JPEG Patent. Litigation against approximately 31 companies for infringement of the '672 Patent in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. License fees totaled over $100M. Unsuccessful claims construction ruling limited patent to video. Final licensing amounts totaled $8M for remaining defendants.

6. Worked on behalf of Alcatel- Lucent Inc. Review of patent portfolio (300+) in the area of teleconferencing that relate to audio and video conferencing equipment, audio and speech coding, echo cancellation, VOIP and video compression standards. The field was narrowed to about a dozen specific patents. Effort ceased with the Cisco acquisition of Tandberg.
