Expert has over 20 years of developing or leading the development of application software for both personal computers and mobile devices. He is experienced in Java, C, Smalltalk, and C++. Object Oriented Analysis, Design, and Development were used in all projects, giving him extensive real world experience in this methodology. He has developed applications for mobile handsets and other wireless devices using J2ME/MIDP2.0 and C. He also developed PC applications in Java SE, C, and C++ that interfaces with the cell phone using 802.15.4 (Zigbee) and Bluetooth. These devices included indoor location beacons, Zigbee to IR conversion device to allow the cell phone control entertainment devices such as TVs DVD players, and the Digital Paperclip - a wireless device that attaches to personal assets (eg. keys) and allow the cell phone to alert the user when the item is being left behind, preventing its loss.

Expert has over 7 years of managing a key intellectual property area for wearable concepts. This involved reviewing invention ideas submitted and deciding which ideas should be submitted as patent disclosures. It also involved reviewing patent disclosures and, leading other reviewers in deciding which disclosures to submit to the patent office as patent applications. He has also participated in reviewing patent applications from parent attorneys prior to their submittal to the patent office.

While at Motorola he was the manager of a Key Innovation Area and was responsible for developing an Intellectual Property portfolio in wearable devices and applications.

Expert is familiar with brainstorming techniques and led several advanced inventing sessions which resulted in many patent disclosures.

He has personal experience in the invention process with 14 awarded US and international patents and several other applications pending at the patent office.

Expert has over 20 years in research and development in areas of tool development, visual programming research and applied research in mobile devices and applications. Mobile application areas included context awareness, pervasive computing, and wearable technology. Expert has managed the process from concept to both software and hardware implementation. He has created use cases and participated in creating usability trials.

Several projects involved interfacing prototype devices with cell phones. He led the development of both Java J2ME and embedded C on the cell phone. Expert personally developed major portions of the middleware used in the prototypes.

He has also prototyped speech enabled applications and user interfaces on the PC and cell phone using Java, C, and C++. He developed grammars and middleware supporting large vocabulary speaker independent speech recognition and speech synthesis. Projects included first speech based web browser prototype and speech enabled email program.

His research and development efforts resulted in several awarded US and international patents.

Expert has published several articles in technical journals and appeared on MSNBC discussing the research. He has also presented at CES and NextFest, and several technical conferences.

His research resulted in a full-length book on the subject, published in 2007.

Expert has over 10 years developing and leading the development of software for advanced mobile device prototypes. He is experienced in Java SE, Java J2ME/MIDP2.0. Prototypes included indoor location system using proximity detection, small, portable devices to manage personal assets, and devices to intelligently control current A/V devices such as TVs, DVD players, etc. All devices interfaced with the cell phone as the controller using Bluetooth and 802.15.4/Zigbee short range radios.

He is experienced in Object Oriented software design and development and in using iterative software processes for maximum flexibility and development speed. He is familiar with IDEs such as Eclipse, CodeGuide and User Interface builders such as JFrameBuilder.

Expert has over 10 years of innovation experience prototyping novel concepts for mobile devices and applications. He has managed both hardware and software engineers taking a concept from invention to operational prototype. He also helped design and conduct usability trials and reviews. Expert holds 14 US and international patents with several applications pending.

Expert was the Motorola MIT Media Lab Scientist in Residence for two years, interfacing with Media Lab senior faculty and Lab Director to identify innovative technologies and transfer it to the labs and business units in Motorola. While at the Media Lab he also conducted research relevant to emerging Motorola businesses.

Expert has served as the Technology Futurist in the Corporate Strategy Group of Motorola in Schaumburg IL. In that role he studied technological, societal, and other activities to identify technology trends important to Motorola's business 3 to 7 years out. Deliverables included reports to senior business and research management describing the trend, its implications, and recommendations for the composition of the Motorola research portfolio. Primary and secondary research as well as quantitative methods were used. Expert also served as consultant to research and business technology groups for technology trends.

Expert has over 12 years of Java development. He has experience in Java SE for PC applications. He also has significant experience in Java J2ME & MIDP 2.0 for mobile handset and other wireless device applications. He has experience in interfacing Java with C and C++, both using JINI and using sockets between Java and C/C++ in separate processes. He has experience with Java development tools including Javacc for parser development and IDEs such as Eclispe and Codeguide. He is also familiar with the Java Speech Markup Language for the development of speech enabled applications. He has experience using Javadoc for program and API documentation generation. He is also experienced in using the Java Wireless Toolkit including the emulator for the rapid development of Java applications for mobile devices.

Expert has served as the Motorola corporate technology futurist. In this position he researched technology trends and identified those that would be important to Motorola's current and emerging businesses in 3 - 7 years, He determined the implications of those trends, both separately and in combination with other technology and social trends. He then provided recommendations for Motorola's senior research management on the composition of their research portfolio to anticipate and exploit those trends for competitive advantage. He also acted as an internal consultant to the business units on technology trends.

Expert also managed the Motorola Research Visionary Board, a group of over 30 world leading technologists, researchers, venture capitalists, and futurists that provided an external view of the technology landscape and its evolution.

For over 10 years Expert has developed new concepts and ideas. He is familiar with several brainstorming techniques such as Reframing Matrix and Concept Fan and techniques to encourage non-linear thinking. He has led advanced inventing sessions which resulted in several patent disclosures. He has experience in using the TRIZ innovation tool in the ideation process. He has developed several of his novel concepts into operational prototypes, resulting in US and international patents.
