Sequence Analysis, Structure Prediction, and Parallel Processing

ID: 722119 United Kingdom

Request Expert

Expert has worked in the field of bioinformatics for ten years and has developed software tools for sequence analysis and structure prediction. Specifically, Expert's expertise is in the application of high performance computers to the problem of database searching and recognizing distant similarities. He was co-author of the commercial program MPSRCH, which implements the Smith and Waterman algorithm originally on MasPar supercomputers but most recently on modern 64-bit general purpose systems.

Expert's interest in sequence led naturally into protein structure prediction and he wrote a number of tools to solve problems related to sequence structure prediction. This led into the area of x-ray crystallography where he developed his skills at the bench purifying and crystallizing a difficult viral protein. The eventual solution of this structure was attained through the use of seleno-methionine replacement and MAD phasing.
