Expert is one of the world's leading experts in lead-acid battery technology. His expertise covers aspects of design, materials, processing, testing, reverse engineering, and failure analysis. He is the principal co-author of the chapter on lead-acid batteries in a handbook on fuel cells. Expert's knowledge in this area also includes lead chemistry, lead-acid battery recycling, and lead-acid battery research and development.

Expert has extensive experience with the research, production, and process development of electric batteries. He is knowledgeable of rechargeable batteries, maintenance-free batteries, and load-leveling batteries. He has tested and reverse-engineered batteries for many specific applications including portable devices and tools, electric vehicles, UPS, and SLI.

Expert has designed and constructed all types of battery testing equipment, including apparatus and methods for accelerated life testing, discharge specifications verification, cycle-life testing, and impedance measurement.

Over the course of his career, Expert has designed and installed numerous battery monitoring systems based on coulometers, strip-chart recorders, stand-alone dataloggers, and computer-controlled dataloggers.

Expert has studied and reported on many types of battery chargers including ferroresonant, SCR, switch-mode, and pulse chargers.

Expert has developed hydrometallurgical processes for recovering cadmium and lead from spent batteries.

Expert has performed numerous studies on battery failures and has predicted failures of new batteries based on reverse engineering.

A significant portion of Expert's career has involved setting up processes and developing equipment and materials for the many aspects of battery assembly. This experience includes conductor-carrier preparation (such as grid casting), paste mixing, pasting, curing, polymer bonding electrodes, assembly, encasing, formation, and in-process quality control testing.

Expert has carried out countless tests for battery life, accelerated life testing, and failure analysis. He has developed methods to predict life and potential failure modes from tear-down examination and reverse engineering of new batteries.

Expert did lab testing of battery materials, batteries, and chargers, both nondestructive and destructive. He did equipment and process development. Expert has provided process, design, and product consultation to many clients in North America, Europe, and Asia.
