Expert has more than forty years experience of designing buildings and environments to meet the needs of older people and those who have disabilities. His designs, several of which have won national awards, have been made in response to the needs of individuals, trusts, local and central government, as well as wider communities. His work often involves historic buildings and settings, such as St Paul's, and other Cathedrals, the National Maritime Museum, and the London Underground system . He acts as a government adviser, and consultant to numerous trusts and organizations. For ten years he was Adviser on disability and design to HRH the Prince of Wales. His work has been extensively published, and he is the author of five books on design, disability and the accessibility of the built environment. He is a regular lecturer at universities and medical schools in the UK and overseas, and has broadcast on both radio and TV. He is also an expert witness in the High Court on meeting the accommodation needs of disabled people

Assessment of the accessibility of the London Underground system and a review of the measures needed to improve it, including a comprehensive review of the organization's design standards. Recommendations were made for the redrafting of the standards.Review of the standards of accommodations and facilities of all five of the personal development centres of the Outward Bound Organization, with proposals for improved accessibility, upgrading and improvement, including the preparation of model designs for trainee facilities.Review of the standards of the facilities and industrial premises of the Remploy organization, with over 10,000 employees, to assess their suitability for purpose and making recommendations for their rationalization and improvement.Assessment of the accessibility of St Paul's Cathedral and associated buildings, together with preparation of a programme of improvements, including a lift serving all principal levels, accessible WCs, and visitor facilities.Review of the facilities of Perkins Institute for the Blind, Boston, Mass, USA to consider their suitability as a base for the education and training of deaf-blind children and young people, including proposals for improvements and alterations.

Expert is an Architect who has also trained as an Arbitrator and as an Expert Witness. He has worked with more than 150 Law firms on the provision of expert evidence in relation to meeting the Claimant's housing or accommodation needs in Personal Injuries actions in the High Court and at Tribunals
Training / Seminars
Expert was Chairman of the Centre for Accessible Environments for nine years, and chaired numerous seminars on disability and design related topics during that time. In the 1970's he set up and ran two courses, each twice per year, at Castle Priory College, Wallingford, for Occupational Therapists, or Occupational Therapists and Architects on basic training in building construction and disability related design problems. The courses ran, over-subscribed, for more than twenty years. In consequence Expert was made an Honorary Member of the College of Occupational Therapists.

Expert originates the specification of his projects from specialist sources which he has built up over the years. As an Industrial Designer as well as an Architect he has engaged in product design, assessment, evaluation and testing for numerous specialist manufacturers.

Expert is a qualified and registered Architect and RIBA Client Design Adviser. He is a member (No.004) of the National Register of Access Consultants. He has trained and qualified both as an Arbitrator and as an Expert Witness. He founded and was the first Chairman of the Herts and Beds Construction Industry Liaison Group.
