Characteristic impedance is an extremely imporant concept in high-frequency engineering and expresses the relationship between high-frequency voltage & current existing on a transmission line or circuit structure. It is used extensively in the design and analysis of high-frequency circuits and is fundamental to the concepts of matching and mismatch. Expert has over forty years experience working with and designing high frequency circuits and using the concept of characteristic impedance.

Communications technology covers a very wide range of techniques and frequencies. At the lowest frequencies are wire-line, e.g. telephone (POTS) with analog signals traveling over copper wire. At the highest frequencies are modulated laser beams traveling within optical fiber to convey vast amounts of information. Expert has a wide range of experience working with and designing communication technology systems. He played an important role in designing communication systems for MIT Lincoln Laboratory's experimental communication satellite. Whilst at NSF he was instrumental in establishing nation-wide research initiatives in all optical communications.

Computer is a term which covers a wide range of digital computing appliances, from embedded computers in all manner of consumer electronics products, to desktop & notebook computers, mini-computers, mainframe computers and super-computers. Expert has experience working with and programming computers from embedded computers for instrumentation & control, personal computers, workstations and mainframe computers.

Expert has performed research into the microwave behavior of semiconductor devices and circuits, and microwave measurement techniques. He was the team leader developing low noise GaAs Schottky barrier mixer diodes used in the millimeter wave communication systems of the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Satellites.
