ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC SYSTEM; ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHY; XEROGRAPHY; XEROGRAPHIC AND ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC COPIERS AND PRINTERS; COLOR IMAGING AND REPRODUCTION SYSTEMS. Expert (prefers Corky) has over twenty years of experience performing technology development, innovation, and product and subsystem design, working for many of the leading companies in the field. He holds many patents, and is a leading expert in the area of cut sheet paper handling for all types of copiers and printers, including feeders of all types (buckle, vacuum picker and corrugation and retard feeders, plus others), paper registration and transports of all types (including vacuum transports). He is proficient paper stacking, folding, and finishing (such as stapling and perfect binding), and document handling of all types. In addition, he has extensive knowledge of all aspects of copier printer subsystems, including the optomechanical and imaging systems, wide belt tracking systems (for photoreceptors and document handlers), and servomotor control systems for all of these.

INK JET PRINTERS AND PRINTING; DROP-ON-DEMAND INK JET PRINTER. Corky has devoted much of the past 10 years to the design and development of color, hot melt ink jet printers. Recently, he has led the development of a system for printing labels and industrial marking with U.V.-curable inks. He holds many patents, and is a leading expert in all types of computer output printers and technologies, including all forms of ink jet (bubblejet, continuous, other impulse), thermal transfer, and direct thermal systems. Corky is knowledgeable of drop-on-demand ink jet printers, a non-impact printer which employs impulses (from PZT actuators or bubble jet) to selectively draw ink from an orifice onto paper.

COLOR REPRODUCTION. As a subset of developing colored electrophotographic and ink jet imaging systems, Corky has acquired an extensive working knowledge of color imaging systems, especially the many contributors to image defects and errors. Many of these relate to motion control and extremely fine spot placement, as well as to color-to-color interactions and misregistration between separations.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT. Corky is somewhat unique because of the extensive breadth of his skills and experience, both within the mechanical domain, as well as in the areas of electromechanical devices and control systems, electronics, and sensors. His strongest skill is the ability to quickly analyze and quantify novel situations and to simplify complex situations. As such, he can provide concise and accurate recommendations for development groups, as well as strategic guidance for technology innovators and management.

PAPER HANDLING. In addition to the areas described above, Corky has solved innumerable paper web (and belt) "tracking" problems, as related to both high-speed web presses, as well as low-speed, two-fold paper paths in dot impact printers and direct thermal recorders. He is knowledgeable about most paper properties as they relate to use in office equipment.

In addition, Corky has access to design and drafting services (including AutoCAD), a model shop, experimental equipment and instrumentation for complex electrical and mechanical testing, and support engineers and technicians for the development and testing of complex electromechanical systems.
