Expert is a widely-respected economics guru who has won most of broadcast journalism's highest honors. For more than 30 years, Expert has worked as a journalist and media executive at several of the leading news outlets in the US. He was an economics writer at The New York Times Magazine and at The New Yorker Magazine. While at the New Yorker, he wrote The Financial Page column and contributed larger features and web stories. While at New York Times Magazine, he was the "On Money" columnist and a contributing writer. His additional work has appeared in The Atlantic, Harper’s, GQ, Rolling Stone, and other publications.

Expert is the co-creator of NPR's Planet Money podcast, a highly celebrated podcast about the economy for people who aren't interested in economics. Prior to starting Planet Money, he served as the International Business and Economics Correspondent at NPR. In addition, he has been a frequent contributor to “This American Life” podcast, including co-reporting an episode that received the Peabody, DuPont-Columbia, and Polk Awards, and was named one of the top works of journalism of the decade by New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.

Expert is a technical consultant in Hollywood, and has worked on films such as The Big Short, as an advisor. He was also CEO and founder of Three Uncanny Four, a podcast production company that was a joint venture with Sony Music. Additionally, in 2020, he wrote an easy to understand book on the road map of our economic future. He has also worked as a public relations consultant to Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
