Expert, who holds a doctorate in Political Science from MIT, is a political risk specialist. She is a founder and principal of Employer, where she advises clients on political risk and mitigation strategies. In particular, Expert has expertise in emerging market risks, with an emphasis on natural resources (oil, gas, and mining). Understanding the political climate in emerging markets is critical for companies interested in protecting their investments. Political risk assessment at market entry, and ongoing advising to mitigate political risks that occur during daily business operations are part of what Expert offers.

Ms. Expert has done marketing research and analysis on the telecommunications sector of Brazil and executive coaching for the London Business School. She has consulted for the World Commission on Dams, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank. In addition, she has done training for oil and gas company executives, and carried out political risk assessments for transnational mining companies.

She has lectured widely on how companies interact with governments, local communities and public watchdog groups, as well as political risk in the United States and Europe. She writes and publishes on political risk for business journals and regularly speaks at industry (financial services, extractive industries, etc.) conferences.

Ms. Expert is completing a book on the politics of reform at the World Bank and is working on another book project on indigenous communities and extractive industries. She has lived and worked all over Latin America and the Caribbean and speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
